It was just like any other December day at the Leander Club in England, chilly and a little bit grey. But this was not going to be just any ordinary day for Phoebe, as she would soon find out. Half way across the planet from her New Zealand home, she and the handsome fellow with the cute accent were walking along the riverbank. It was just a stroll, I suppose, like any other. The joggers ran past in their admirable quest to be fit and keep warm, the dogs were walking and doing whatever it is that dogs do on their outings, and over in the distance Phoebe and Aaron could hear a couple of buskers. As they came closer the guy and his guitar and the girl who was singing wrapped up their song, stopped Aaron and Phoebe and asked if they could dedicate a song to Phoebe. She shrugged and figured “why not”. She probably hadn’t thought about the person on the other side of the camera, and she would have had no idea that the footage of this particular walk, and this particular song was being streamed live back to her family in New Zealand. As the musicians began their song, “I think I want to marry you”, she probably hadn’t yet caught on, until somewhere in the second chorus where the words changed to “Hey Phoebe, I think I want to marry you” and she turns around to see Aaron taking a box out of his jacket pocket and getting on one knee. The penny drops, she says yes and immediately throws her arms around his neck and kisses him. Yes. Yes she did want to marry him too.
Phoebe and Aaron were married in the UK earlier this year. I’d like to show you pictures of that, but I wasn’t there. Instead, I can show you pictures of their New Zealand wedding just this past week. Phoebe always wanted her wedding to be in her parents backyard, and along their their absolutely STUNNING baby girl Maisie.
Phoebe received a lovely gift of perfume from her Mum, the very same one she wore on her wedding day all those years ago!
I wished I was a twin growing up. A dream probably helped along by movies like “The Parent Trap”, but there was all sorts of adventures I would have loved to have had! Sisters on a wedding day are great. Twin sisters on a wedding day are also pretty cool.
Parent reaction win for both Mum and Dad.
There’s something very special about Pa. He must be a very adored grandfather indeed as when he turned up there was a bolt of excitement that shot through the family as I heard happy whispers of “Pa is here!”
Even little Maisie thought he was pretty cool.
Phoebe, you look absolutely stunning!
There’s so much to love about Reggie. He’s enthusiastic, very much part of the family, and his feet turn out.
I like that about Reggie.
Aaron got ready at Phoebe’s parents house as well. It was a little bit of a juggle making sure these two didn’t get to see each other before the ceremony!
And then it was time. The guests were seated and Dad escorted Phoebe down the aisle. Reggie also. He was a big help.
Aaron had done a brilliant job of surprising Phoebe with the proposal. Now it was Phoebe’s turn. This was the moment that Aaron heard the bag pipes. A special surprise just for him. That face right there is a win.
We didn’t venture away from the back yard for photos. We really didn’t have to.
Then it was time to re-join the guests as they mingled, had a couple of speeches and prepared to go inside the dining room for a relaxed dinner.
When Phoebe first laid eyes on Aaron she couldn’t look away. She said it was love at first sight. With the way that he looks back at her in this image, I’d say he feels just the same way.
Thanks Aaron and Phoebe for sharing your special day with us. Wishing you both, and Maisie of course, the happiest of years to come.
